Summary A ground source heat pump (GSHP) is widely regarded as a promising technology for building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning because of its higher energy efficiency. Nanofluids (NFs) have also received extensive attention due to their excellent heat transfer characteristics. In this paper, CuO/Al2O3 particles mixed with propylene glycol/water (PG/W, volume ratio: 60/40) are applied to GSHPs as a heat transfer medium. The combination of different pipe types and different concentrations of NFs is studied by comparing the coefficient of performances (COPs) and outlet temperatures. The results show that the 2% CuO NF combined with the spiral type offers the best performance with a 28% rise in the outlet temperature in the pipe and an average COP value of 4.6. When the concentration of Al2O3 NF is 2%, the combined effect of the meander type is the best. The optimal combination of CuO (2%) and spiral type is used for economic analysis by comparing with the performance of natural gas boilers, air source pumps, and GSHPs under similar conditions. The levelized cost of heat analysis results indicate that the horizontal GSHP system coupled with NF can maximize heat exchange efficiency and mitigate environmental effects, but the cost is still high as ¥ 1355/MWh ($212.46/MWh).

Energy and exergy analysis of systems are of great importance to enhance the energy and exergy efficiency of industrial production facilities. With the energy and exergy analyses performed, the energy dependency of the production facilities and their energy consumption can be reduced, the price of the product can decrease, and the profit margin can increase. Additionally, it is ensured that the energy produced based on fossil fuels is used in a controlled way. In the present study, the analysis of energy and exergy has been performed for the production reactor unit of the Boric Acid from Colemanite. The first law of thermodynamics and ChemCAD simulation program was used for energy analysis calculations, and the calculations of exergy analysis were carried out by using the second law of thermodynamics. The total energy loss of the reactor unit and the calculated energy loss per 100 kcal input steam were calculated as 110880 kcal/h and 3.724%, and the losses of total exergy in the reactor units and the losses of exergy calculated per 100 kcal input steam were calculated as 225058.86 kcal/h and 30.095%, respectively. Exergy efficiency for the reactor unit has been determined as 3.3 %. Some suggestions were given for the reactor units of boric acid production plants to minimize system losses.

The number of radiant heating-cooling systems in building applications is increasing it is because of low energy consumption, low operating temperature and high values they provide in terms of working compatibility with renewable energy sources. In this study, ground source heat pump integrated radiant panels installed on the wall and suspended ceiling of the office room in Yıldız Technical University Science and Technology Application and Research Centre were experimentally examined in terms of thermal comfort according to the relevant standards. Vertical air temperature differences and mean radiant temperatures were investigated. The mean air temperature differences at 0.1 m and 1.7 m were found to be 3,9 oC 2.9 oC 3.5 oC, 3.1 oC and 3.4 oC on average for the five different stands, respectively. PMV and PPD values were found to be 0.78 and 18.9% for February 12 (Case 1), 0.36 and 8.4% for February 13 (Case 2), respectively. In the experiment carried out under the conditions of Case 2, while the comfort conditions were provided in almost all of the day, the desired comfort conditions could not be achieved in Case 1 after 11 am.
