“…This toxin is therefore distinct from the M. neurolyticum toxin (22), which is a thermolabile protein. It is also distinct from the M. mycoides toxin, which is a polysaccharide (10) capable of inducing allergic (5) reactions, and from the toxin of M. agalactiae, which can induce endotoxin reactions (23). Piercy (9) recently noted that heat-inactivated M. mycoides preparations could induce synovitis when injected into limb joints of calves.…”

“…Our attention was also directed to the possibility of endotoxin in M. neurolyticum, since an endotoxic lipopolysaccharide has been demonstrated in M. mycoides (Villemot, Provost, and Queval, 1962). Washed type A and KSA suspensions were found to be as neurotropic and lethal as cell-free filtrates, and plate counting techniques established an LD5o of approximately 3 X 108 washed Mycoplasma cells for mice.…”

“…i.e., it is pyrogenic in rabbits, lethal to chick embryos, and able to produce leukopenia and promote lesions in cattle (Villemot et al, 1962). Injection into calves, sheep, and goats produced endotoxic effects as indicated by an increased pulmonary resistance, pulmonary edema, hemorrhage, and in some instances, pulmonary capillary thrombosis.…”

“…Injection into calves, sheep, and goats produced endotoxic effects as indicated by an increased pulmonary resistance, pulmonary edema, hemorrhage, and in some instances, pulmonary capillary thrombosis. These effects might be due to binding of galactan to receptor sites on either blood elements or blood vessels and the secondary effect of released biogenic amines in the lungs (Buttery et al, 1976;Lloyd et al, 1971 (Villemot et al, 1962;Lloyd et al, 1971;Seid et al, 1980). and partial to total occlusion of capillary lumen (Tully, 1964).…”
