“…3 Moreover, the number of CECs significantly increases over the course of some diseases that are associated with damage to the endothelium, such as acute coronary syndrome, ischemic stroke, vasculitis, pulmonary hypertension, sickle-cell anaemia, thalassaemia, rickettsial infection, diabetes, chronic renal failure, septic shock, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, and systemic lupus erythematosus.
