Abstract: Endoscopic submucosal dissection is a feasible technique for treating large superficial colorectal tumors because it provides a higher en-bloc resection rate and is less invasive than surgical resection.

“…[61][62][63][64] However, it is not widely available in the UK and the majority of evidence for ESD for NETs is from the rectal carcinoid literature. [65][66][67][68][69] Endoscopic resection of nonmetastatic localised lesions <2 cm with ≤6 lesions has been demonstrated to be as effective as surgical resection. For more advanced lesions >1 cm, with EUS-assessed involvement of the muscularis propria and/or local lymph nodes, surgical resection is indicated.…”

“…69 Recently, an increasing number of colorectal ESDs have been reported from Japan showing the feasibility of the technique, especially in lateral spread tumors of the non-granular type. [70][71][72] Furthermore, a case series study of colorectal ESD, published by Niimi et al shows that the 5-year survival rate is as high as 95.3%. 73 Finally, a case report of ESD in the terminal ileum by Japanese endoscopists 74 shows the feasibility of this technique in this area.…”

“…15,16 ESD offers a more complete en-bloc excision of larger, sessile polyps, typically >20 mm with a lower recurrence rate compared to EMR. 17 Although it is commonly used in the upper gastrointestinal tract, its use in the colon and rectum is more rare. TEM is technically challenging with a steep learning curve making it difficult for surgeons to adopt this technique over conventional TAE.…”
