Endogenous motilin, but not ghrelin plasma levels fluctuate in accordance with gastric phase III activity of the migrating motor complex in man

“…However, we have reported recently that ghrelin plasma levels in humans do not fluctuate with the different phases of the MMC (20). We did confirm that motilin plasma levels peak before the occurrence of a phase III with gastric but not with duodenal onset (20).…”

“…We did confirm that motilin plasma levels peak before the occurrence of a phase III with gastric but not with duodenal onset (20). Intrigued by the findings of Cannon and Washburn (11) and Carlson (12) and the link between the MMC and motilin, we studied the association of motilin plasma levels with the hunger sensation identified during phase III of the MMC (50).…”

“…The transient phase 4 of the cycle is not always observed. Despite over 40 years overpassing from the discovery of the MMC, the knowledge regarding its occurrence and control is still incomplete (Takahashi, 2013;Deloose et al, 2015). The mechanical correlates of the MR were also presented (Romański, 2009a).…”
