“…Although only accounting for a small proportion of the variance on the sense of meaningfulness in life, our results support the hypothesis of the positive association between civic engagement and sense of meaningfulness in life; the current findings can thus provide insights into local youth programs. For example, an action research undertaken by Su et al ( 2014 ) on Chinese university students living in Taiwan indicated that university students’ civic engagement via service-learning in organizing a study group for elementary students could lead to an enhancement of meaningful in life, together with an improvement of communication and engagement in peer groups. According to the researchers, the strength of this program is its integration of supports from faculty members and other fellow students, as well as interactions with service users, which seems to echo our findings on the influence of social support from a wider circle of friends like service users and significant others like university teachers.…”

“…This aspiration was later more fully articulated in Liu's proposal for Height psychology (Liu, 2017), which is most consistent with the approach of social psychologists more engaged in indigenous psychological approaches (Bhawuk, 2017). The first special issue in this series featured some action research projects that were drawn from indigenous social concepts Su, Pan, & Chen, 2014), and as such, the series seemed to show promise in nurturing this social change orientation in social psychology research in Asia. But in the following years, it became increasingly difficult to gather action research studies or studies that were oriented towards social change.…”

“…Liu et al, 2015;Wang, Shiahhou, Ben Wu, & Liu, 2014 -reported the process and outcomes of the design and implementation of vocational systems designed to enhance career and study choices for university students. Only one paper out of 19 in JPRP used qualitative methods and emphasised critical reflection (Su, Pan, & Chen, 2014 As a consequence of these observations, and considering the positivist and quantitative empirical focus of research training in the Asian region, we are not confident that participatory action research (Dick, 2015) is going to make headway as a rallying point for applied social psychological research in Asia.…”

Only one paper out of 19 in JPRP used qualitative methods and emphasised critical reflection (Su, Pan, & Chen, 2014).
