Abstract:Este artigo apresenta uma leitura do filme alemão Toni Erdmann (2016), dirigido por Maren Ade, a partir da indagação a respeito dos modos através dos quais ele analisa os processos contemporâneos de modernização na Europa. Para tanto, será feita também uma reflexão sobre a apropriação que o filme faz de certos modos de encenação épica propostos por Bertolt Brecht. A parte final do artigo sugere uma aproximação entre o filme e a peça Mãe Coragem e seus filhos (Mutter Courage und ihre Kinder, 1939).
