“…When bacteria are used to heal cracks in cementitious materials, the crystal growth and crack width reduction can be monitored in time by using microscopic analysis . Also when crystalline admixtures, expansive agents, autogenous healing, promoted and stimulated autogenous healing with SAPs, microcapsules with bacteria and other healing agents, the combination of bacteria and SAPs, and sodium‐silicate saturated lightweight aggregates are studied, microscopic analysis can be used.…”

“…The composition and the elemental analysis can state something about the usefulness of the different types of bacteria studied. Studying the precipitated healing products with SEM/EDX was applied for crystalline admixtures and geomaterials, for autogenous healing, healing of lime mortars, healing through embedded microcapsules, healing by porous silica or lightweight aggregates as a capsule or carrier for chemical or biological healing agents, SAPs and expansive powder minerals, among others. All these healing techniques result in different products, being formed and/or precipitated.…”

“…To compensate this drawback, adding mineral admixtures in cementitious materials seems to be a good option to promote the autogenous self-healing performances. Till now, the effect of various mineral additives i.e., silicabased materials [27], calcium sulfoaluminate based expansive agents [28] and crystalline components [29] on promoting the autogenous self-healing of cementitious has been investigated. For example, the maximum crack width of around 400µm found to be healed with expansive powder minerals contained glass capsule system.…”

“…The expansive powder minerals are positioned in first layer of capsules, water is positioned in inner capsules. When the concentric glass macrocapsules are cracked, the released healing agent will interacts with [28] water and CO 2 and then different hydrated and carbonated products are formed, to seal and heal the cracks. The result shows that the addition of mineral admixture can promote the effect of autogenous self-healing in cementitious materials.…”
