Emulsion copolymerization of styrene and butyl acrylate in the presence of a chain transfer agent. Part 2: Parameters estimability and confidence regions

Abstract: Accurate estimation of the model parameters is required to obtain reliable predictions of the products end-use properties. However, due to the mathematical model structure and/or to a possible lack of measurements, the estimation of some parameters may be impossible. This paper will focus on the case where the main limitations to the parameters estimability are their weak effect on the measured outputs or the correlation between the effects of two or more parameters. The objective of the method developed in th… Show more

“…In the interval of [0.02, 0.16] a value of δ =0.02 better fitted the conversion curve of the batches B-1 to B-4, and a value of δ = 0.16 better adjusted the semicontinuous processes with lower addition rate, as seen below. Then we considered that it was not necessary to apply parametric estimability (Benyahia, 2013) to δ in this interval.…”

“…copolymers (Benyahia et al, 2010(Benyahia et al, , 2013 has been done, and Wang and Hutchinson included the penultimate effect, β-scission and backbiting in the simulation of the polymerization (Wang and Hutchinson, 2010). In our work, the effect of the chain transfer agent in terpolymerization has been included in the model through the use of average values of k p an k t of BuA, which include the effect of backbiting.…”
