An immunohistochemical study of the distribution of different proteins linked to the GABA physiology, glutamic acid decarboxylase, vesicular GABA transporter, KCC2, in the interpolaris part of the spinal trigeminal nucleus in embryonic mice led Kin et al (2014) to suggest that the switch occurs between E13 and E17 in this species. The expression of KCC2 and NKCC1 in the opossum’s spinal cord indicates that the development of inhibition in this species is broadly comparable to that in rodents (Phan and Pflieger, 2013).…”
