“…SIBLINGs regulate a plethora of processes such as cell death, angiogenesis and ECM remodeling. In line, SIBLINGs have been proposed as biomarkers for different diseases including inflammatory and infectious diseases as well as cancers [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14].…”

“…In our study, the diagnostic power of osteopontin was superior to CEA and CA19–9. Notably, circulating levels of osteopontin were also significantly higher in CCA patients compared to PSC patients [56]. …”

“…In a large cohort of 107 patients with CCA and who underwent elective tumour resection, we recently demonstrated that serum levels of osteopontin are elevated in patients with CCA compared to healthy controls as well as compared to patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis. In this cohort, pre- and postoperative elevations of osteopontin were associated with an impaired patients’ prognosis and indicated poor postoperative survival [56]. Thus, analysis of osteopontin serum levels might not only help to predict overall survival of patients with resectable CCA but also to specifically identify patients who particularly benefit from extended liver surgery.…”

“…Circulating osteopontin, a secreted glycol phosphoprotein, is also elevated in CCA patients compared to healthy controls or patients with PSC. It is important to note that high pre‐ and post‐operative osteopontin levels were associated with reduced overall survival after tumour resection …”
