Oscillating Water Column (OWC) systems harness wave energy using a partially submerged chamber with an underwater opening. The Savonius turbine, a vertical-axis wind turbine, is well-suited for this purpose due to its efficiency at low speeds and self-starting capability, making it an ideal power take-off (PTO) mechanism in OWC systems. This study tested an OWC device with a Savonius turbine in an air duct to evaluate its performance under varying flow directions and loads. An innovative aspect was assessing the influence of power augmenters (PAs) positioned upstream and downstream of the turbine. The experimental setup included load cells, Pitot tubes, differential pressure sensors and rotational speed sensors. Data obtained were used to calculate pressure differentials across the turbine and torque. The primary goal of using PA is to increase the CP–λ curve area without modifying the turbine geometry, potentially enabling interventions on existing turbines without rotor dismantling. Additionally, another novelty is the implementation of a regression Machine-Learning algorithm based on decision trees to analyze the influence of various features on predicting pressure differences, thereby broadening the scope for further testing beyond physical experimentation.

An Oscillating Water Column device, specifically a Savonius turbine, underwent comprehensive testing within an air duct to evaluate its performance under varying rotational speeds, flow directions, and the presence of power augmenters positioned both in front of and behind the device. The experimental setup involved the utilization of load cells and pressure transducers, with their data utilized to calculate pressure differentials across the turbine and torque. Subsequently, a predictive model based on decision trees was developed using Machine Learning. This model was then used to analyze the influence of various features on predicting the pressure difference, considered as the output. The results of the validation (10-fold cross-validation) and test phases were thoroughly investigated. Moreover, obtaining a predictive model allows for the exploration of different scenarios without relying solely on physical experimentation, thereby broadening the scope for further testing.

Objetivo: analisar a percepção de usuários de redes sociais a respeito da utilização de sistemas de IA no campo da saúde e os aspectos bioéticos associados a essa utilização. Método: Estudo de método mistos, do tipo descritivo-exploratório. O percurso metodológico foi dividido em duas etapas: (1) levantamento de informação a respeito dos principais aspectos bioéticos envolvidos na utilização de IA e (2) elaboração dos cenários de tomada de decisão. Os dados quantitativos foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva a fim de caracterizar a amostra do ponto de vista sociodemográfico, bem como caracterizar o perfil de tomada de decisão da amostra com relação às questões bioéticas associadas à utilização de sistemas de IA. A análise dos dados qualitativos foi realizada por meio da análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Resultados: com relação ao perfil sociodemográfico pode-se observar uma amostra de adultos, do sexo feminino, com curso superior completo. Com relação às preocupados éticas associadas aos cenários aplicados, as principais preocupações foram em primeiro lugar a privacidade e confidencialidade dos dados, seguido de preocupações relacionadas à responsabilidade associada a utilização destas tecnologias, bem como ao consentimento informado. Conclusão: Desta forma, destaca-se a importância de novos estudos empíricos exploratórios como este, avaliando a percepção, atitudes e opiniões de públicos especializados, como profissionais da área da saúde, do direito, das humanidades, a fim de se obter evidências concretas para a elaboração de programas de gestão e governança dos sistemas de IA, sobretudo no cenário brasileiro, de escassez de recursos.
