Elemental Sulfur-Stabilized Liquid Marbles: Properties and Applications

Abstract: Sulfur-stabilized liquid marbles were readily prepared by rolling water droplets on a sulfur (S 8 ) powder bed. Because of the construction of a gel layer on the surface of liquid marbles, the resulting liquid marbles have shape-designable characteristics. The effects of rolling time and volume of droplets on the deformability of sulfur-stabilized liquid marbles were investigated along with their mechanical stability and lifetime. The capability of sulfur-stabilized liquid marbles to be deformed at different p… Show more

“…[163] By using LMIL, millimetric Pickering like emulsions can be formed with the added benefit of a narrow size distribution. [155,156] Additional, LMs can be prepared out of liquid and then if required be submerged into a liquid. Their millimetric size also allows for easier transfer and manipulation than smaller Pickering emulsion droplets, often transferred easily with forceps, making them more well suited for long term and temperature miniature reactors for cell cultures.…”

“…41−48 Various kinds of functional solid particles have been utilized as an LM stabilizer. 44,49 Recently, highly transparent LMs were successfully fabricated using millimeter-sized polymer plates. 50,51 The LMs had polyhedral shapes, and an inner liquid phase could be easily observed with the naked eye, thanks to the low light-scattering property of the plates, making them suitable as a microreactor/sensor.…”

“…The presence of vacancy defects on the loose protective outer layer, constructed by the hydrophobic powder, results in easy segmentation of the liquid marble using a small solid rod . Continuous segmentation of large-sized liquid marbles has even achieved fine control of the liquid marble shape. , Thus, the UMM can be regarded as a liquid marble at high temperatures, and it is possible to realize the same process.…”
