Electroweak corrections to hadronic event shapes and jet production in annihilation

Abstract: We present a complete calculation of the electroweak O(α 3 αs) corrections to three-jet production and related event-shape observables at electron-positron colliders. The Z-boson resonance is described within the complex-mass scheme, rendering the calculation valid both in the resonance and off-shell regions. Higher-order initial-state radiation is included in the leading-logarithmic approximation. We properly account for the corrections to the total hadronic cross section and for the experimental photon isola… Show more

“…This difference is always covered by the hadronization uncertainty. In [49] electroweak O(α 3 α S ) corrections to event shapes are calculated. They comprise effects of initial state radiation, which in our approach are corrected for by Monte Carlo models.…”

“…To this end we follow closely the procedure in refs. [35,58] and relate D q i →γ to the parametrisation D ALEPH, MS q→γ measured at ALEPH [60]. We find The µ F -dependence of the photon fragmentation function cancels by construction.…”

“…Following refs. [35,58] we eliminate this singularity by discarding events which contain a jet consisting of a hard photon recombined with a soft parton a (a = q i ,q i , g): photonic jets with z γ = E γ /(E γ + E a ) above a critical value z cut γ are attributed to the process pp → ℓ − ℓ + j + γ and therefore excluded. This event definition is still not IR-save because the application of the z γ cut to recombined quark-photon jets spoils the cancellation of final-state collinear singularities with the virtual photonic corrections.…”

“…Following Refs. [50,89] we eliminate this singularity by discarding events which contain a jet consisting of a hard photon recombined with a soft parton a (a = q i ,q i , g) taking the photon-jet energy fraction z γ = E γ /(E γ + E a ) as a discriminator. Photonic jets with z γ above a critical value z cut γ are attributed to the process pp → Z + 1 jet + γ and therefore they are excluded.…”
