Electrospun polyacrylonitrile nanofibrous membranes supported with montmorillonite for efficient PM2.5 filtration and adsorption of Cu (II) ions

Abstract: In this study, we have fabricated polyacrylonitrile/montmorillonite (PAN/Mt) nanofibrous nanocomposites with variation in concentration of Mt from 0.25% to 1.00%. The electrospinning process developed PAN/Mt nanofibrous nanocomposites having reduced fiber diameters and high surface roughness as observed in Field emission scanning electron microscopy. The nanocomposite nanofibers were characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analyzer for intercalation and thermal stability respectively. PA… Show more

“…In addition, the filtration capacity of the film loaded with 5% ZnO-PLLA was significantly better than that of the other components. This is due to the diffusion mechanism of nanoparticle filtration, where the ZnO nanoparticles grafted on PLLA take up part of the gap in the used mask, leading to an increase in filtration [35]. This implies that the grafting of nano ZnO is very effective in enhancing the filtration performance of the ZnO-PLLA/PLLA films.…”

“…11 Among the membranes, electrospun membranes are highly versatile because of their high porosity, ease of surface functionalization, tunable fiber diameter, high surface area-to-volume ratio, fabrication flexibility, and enhanced filtration ability. 12 However, fouling on polymer electrospun membranes is a serious problem in water filtration applications as well as dye removal from wastewater. 13 It reduces water permeability and, hence, purification efficiency.…”
