Electrospun Carbon Nanofiber Modified Electrodes for Stripping Voltammetry

Abstract: Electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based carbon nanofibers (CNFs) have attracted intense attention due to their easy processing, high carbon yield, and robust mechanical properties. In this work, a CNF modified glassy carbon (GC) electrode that was coated with Nafion polymer was evaluated as a new electrode material for the simultaneous determination of trace levels of heavy metal ions by anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). Pb(2+) and Cd(2+) were used as a representative system for this initial study. Well-de… Show more

“…Thus, the detection of lead is important. Anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) is a powerful electroanalytical technique for trace metal measurement . The analysis procedure involves a preconcentration step to accumulate metal on the electrode surface by reducing the metal ions to atoms, followed by a stripping step to reoxidize the metal to its ionic form.…”

“…Osteryoung square wave stripping voltammetry (OSWSV) was used for the stripping step due to its ability to achieve low limits of detection by minimizing interference from nonfaradaic current . A supporting electrolyte of 0.1 M acetate buffer pH 4.5 was chosen because it has been found to be a good medium for ASV of heavy metals detection .…”

“…Nanofiber‐based physical adsorption methods with heavy metal receptors have also been applied to fabricate ENM‐immobilized electro‐chemosensors (Figure D). Zhao et al fabricated carbon ENMs by an electrospinning technique. Then, Nifion was physically adsorbed onto the surface of carbon nanofibers ( Figure ).…”
