Electrophoretic Deposited Stable Chitosan@MoS2 Coating with Rapid In Situ Bacteria‐Killing Ability under Dual‐Light Irradiation

Abstract: Developing in situ disinfection methods in vivo to avoid drug-resistant bacteria and tissue toxicity is an urgent need. Here, the photodynamic and photothermal properties of the chitosan-assisted MoS (CS@MoS ) hybrid coating are simultaneously inspired to endow metallic Ti implants with excellent surface self-antibacterial capabilities. This coating, irradiated by only 660 nm visible light (VL) for 10 min, exhibits an antibacterial efficacy of 91.58% and 92.52% against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphyloco… Show more

“…As shown in Figure D, the as‐prepared MoS 2 ‐α‐CD exhibited a similar spectrum to that of α‐CD while the MoS 2 ‐BNN6 exhibited similar spectrum to that of BNN6. The peaks at 3430 and 1640 cm −1 can be assigned to the stretching of OH, and the bands from 1000 to 1200 cm −1 resulted from skeletal vibrations of COC stretching . These groups were attributed to α‐CD.…”

“…It is found that most of PTAs yield the photothermal effect only under the NIR band, while most of PSs produce ROS under the visible light spectrum. Therefore, in the systems containing both PTAs and PSs, dual‐light irradiation is one direct approach for performing APTT and APDT at the same time . However, killing bacteria using UV–vis irradiation may not be desired in vivo due to its damage to biological tissues.…”

“…Moreover, reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been reported to induce bacteria death through the initial oxidative lesions effect on cell membrane and wall. In this study, we proposed a synergistic exogenous antimicrobial system composed of MoS 2 , IR780, and arginine-glycine-aspartic acid-cysteine (RGDC), in which MoS 2 is a biocompatible prototypical transition-metal dichalcogenide that exhibits high photothermal conversion efficiency, [30][31][32][33] while IR780 is a photosensitizer that can transfer the energy of near-infrared (NIR) light to dissolved oxygen ( 3 O 2 ) to generate singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ). [28,29] Multiple synergetic antibacterial modalities are considered promising approaches to induce potent synergistic effect and decrease the side effect of single modality.…”
