Electronic structure ofCeAg2Ge2studied by resonant photoemission spectroscopy

Abstract: The electronic structure of CeAg 2 Ge 2 single crystal has been investigated by using valence-band photoemission at different photon energies ranging from 110 to 150 eV. Resonant photoemission has been observed near the 4d threshold of Ce at 121 eV. The constant initial-state spectra shows two photoemission features having 4f character near the Fermi level at −0.4 and −1.7 eV which exhibits Fano-type sharp resonance character. The experimental spectra have been interpreted with the help of calculations based o… Show more

“…Similar low energy satellite has been observed in Mn 2 p core level in 14 , Mn based Heusler alloys 44 and 45 , where this has been attributed to the delocalized type of screening of the holes and the presence of delocalized states at 45 . Such low energy satellites are also observed in rare-earth based intermetallics like 26 and PrGe 1 where it arises due to strong hybridization of the localized 4 f states with the conduction electrons. We find that the intensity of the satellite line increases with decreasing temperature which could be related to the change in hybridization due to the localization of Cr states at lower temperature.…”

“…The total DOS has been broadened by multiplying the Fermi function at the measurement temperature and convoluting with a Voigt function. [41][42][43] The FWHM of the Gaussian component is taken to be 0.4 eV of the Voigt function which represents the instrumental resolution in different measurements. The energy dependent Lorentzian FWHM that represents the lifetime broadening is 0.3E, where E is the energy w.r.t E F .…”

“…Off-and on-resonance spectra (thin and thick curves, respectively) are measured at two photon energies 870 eV (A) and 881.7 eV (B) in x-ray absorption spectra near the Ce M 5 edge shown in the inset, respectively. Each spectrum is magnified by the scale factor denoted on the right side of the figure. is due to the Fano profiles and, therefore, can be interpreted as "antiresonance phenomena" [39,40]. The major intensity distributions indicate the partial density of states (pDOS) of O 2p and S 3p multiplied photoemission cross sections.…”
