Electromagnetic Transients Program: History and Future

Abstract: This paper describes the background of Electromagnetic Transients Program (EMTP) and reviews original EMTP development at Bonneville Power Administration of the US Department of Energy starting from 1966 to 1984. Then, the paper briefly explains the development and present situation of four EMTPs, that is, ATP‐EMTP, EMTP‐RV (now EMTP®), EMTDC/PSCAD and XTAP.
