Electrochemically Pretreated Carbon Microfiber Electrodes as Sensitive HPLC-EC Detectors

Abstract: The paper focuses on the analysis and detection of electroactive compounds using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with electrochemical detection (EC). The fabrication and utilization of electrochemically treated carbon fiber microelectrodes (CFMs) as highly sensitive amperometric detectors in HPLC are described. The applied pretreatment procedure is beneficial for analytical characteristics of the sensor as demonstrated by analysis of the model set of phenolic acids. The combination of CF… Show more

“…13,14 FIA was tested at various ow rates (15-200 mL min À1 ), nevertheless, using our instrumentation, similar values of LODs were found (Table 1). Therefore, we incorporated the sensor, treated according to the procedure described above, into a FIA/HPLC detection ow-cell, described in our previous works.…”

“…The caffeic acid tablets were purchased from Dezhou Deyao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. The 1 H NMR spectra and 13 C NMR spectra were recorded on a Bruker AM-600 spectrometer (Billerica, MA), and chemical shi (d) were given in parts per million relative to tetramethylsilane (TMS). High-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) spectra were recorded on an Agilent 1290LC-6540 Accurate-Mass Q-TOF by using electrospray ionization (ESI).…”

“…10 Therefore, quantitative detection of caffeic acid is of great signicance for comprehend our daily diet and early diagnosis of diseases. 11 To date, several analytical methods have been reported to determine caffeic acid, including chromatography (HPLC, GC), [12][13][14][15] capillary electrophoresis, 16 voltammetry, [17][18][19] electrochemical methods, [20][21][22][23] and UV-Visible spectrophotometry, 24,25 etc. However, there are still some limitations, such as needing expensive instruments, complex sample pretreatment, lengthy analysis time and high cost, etc.…”

“…The detector set-up used for the HPLC experiments described in this paper was generally the same as in [20], and will be thus described only briefly: A piece (ca 5 cm) of silica capillary (ID=50 µm) was inserted into a piece (2 cm) of PEEK tubing and mounted on a printed circuit board used as a support and auxiliary electrode. The CFME was inserted into the outlet of a PEEK capillary so that approx.…”
