“…In this context, over the past years, several works have focused on the use of renewable energy power sources to decrease both the investment and maintenance costs of wastewater treatment systems. Among research studies on the electrodialysis of brackish water [17][18][19], the electrocoagulation of dyes [20], and the electrooxidation of wastewater [21][22][23][24][25][26] in which an electrochemical cell is directly supplied by photovoltaic solar energy have demonstrated the technical feasibility of the technology. The direct connection of the photovoltaic array to the electrochemical reactor avoids the use of a storage battery system, and this clearly contributes to efficient use of the energy (no energy losses in charge-discharge cycles of batteries) and to a decrease in the investment and maintenance costs of storage systems.…”
