“…Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) spectra Na 2 Cd 4 (SCH 2 CH 2 SO 3 Na) 10 180 *The molecular formulas were assigned on the basis of elemental analysis, but the values of n for compounds 2 and 3 have not been established. The structures assigned to complexes 4 and 5 are based on literature precedent (Dance, 1980;Dance, 1981;Hencher et al, 1981;Craig et al, 1986;Dance et al, 1987) and are tentative. †The retention volumes (V r ) are given in ml for a G-50 Sephadex column with a bed volume of 322 ml.…”

“…The size of the rings appears to be related to the steric bulk of the thiolates and in some cases one-dimensional nonmolecular substances appear to be formed in the solid state. Adamantane-cage like structures with the molecular formula [M 4 (SR) 8 ] and [M 4 (SR) 10 ] 2are formed by zinc (II) (Dance, 1980;Dance, 1981;Hencher et al, 1981) and cadmium (II) ( Figure 1). Cubic-type structures containing bridging sulfur have been prepared from iron (II) and cobalt (II).…”

“…Of particular relevance to the present work are those systems in which metal thiolates were obtained in high yield by oxidation in solutions of thiols or disulfides. [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8] This technique provides a simple, high-yield, one-step route to thiolato derivatives of both main group and transition metals. We have also shown that analogous experiments with solutions of alkanedithiols, R(SH)2, give rise to MS2R species and their adducts, for M = Zn and Cd,9 and to some unusual low-oxidation-state species for M = In.10 1112Compounds of such ligands are of current biochemical importance, but also present some challenging structural problems, especially with d10 ions such as copper(I),11,12 and the interest in the structure of copper(I) compounds has also been reinforced by their use in syntheses and as catalysts for hydrogenation and similar processes.…”
