Electrochemical Oxidation and Sensitive Determination of Acetaminophen in Pharmaceuticals at Poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene)‐Modified Screen‐Printed Electrodes

Abstract: The current study reports electrocatalytic oxidation of acetaminophen at screen-printed electrode (SPE) modified with electrogenerated poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) film. Cyclic voltammetric studies show that the SPE/PEDOT electrode lowers overpotentials and improves electrochemical behavior of acetaminophen (ACAP) in aqueous buffer solutions, compared to the bare SPE. Excellent analytical features are achieved, including high sensitivity, low detection limit and satisfactory dynamic range, by cycli… Show more

“…Thus poly(Lhistidine) modification was successfully used for isoniazid [248], poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) for acetaminophen [249] and cobalt phthalocyanine for citric acid in pharmaceutical formulations [250]. Silver nanoparticles were incorporated into the carbon layer and showed a catalytic effect towards oxcarbazepine [251].…”

“…This work studied the electrochemical behavior of the non-charged paracetamol drug at SPE/PEDOT. The PEDOT film efficiently accelerated the paracetamol electron transfer rate, and the proposed method was applied to paracetamol determination in pharmaceutical tablet by FIA coupled to amperometric detection [61]. Paracetamol was also determined at carbon-based SPE with the working electrode covered by a cellulose acetate layer.…”

“…The role of the electrochemical synthesis conditions of PEDOT for the electroanalytical response of the polymer-coated electrodes was approached in few cases [10][11][12].Our former study [12] shows that PEDOT films synthesized in the presence of small amounts of various dopants (polysterensulfonate (PSS), poly(2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonate (PAMPS) or dodecylsufate (DDS)) or the non-ionic surfactant polyoxyethyelene-10-laurylether (PLE) in the aqueous polymerization solution have different electroanalytical response with respect to ascorbic acid and dopamine oxidation. In this study we extend the investigations to acetaminophen oxidation.…”
