Electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide on a cobalt tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)porphyrin modified electrode in BMImBF4

Abstract: Electro-catalytic reduction of CO2 at −0.8 V vs. Ag/AgCl has been studied with poly-Co(ii)-porphyrin on ITO in BMImBF4 as reaction media.

“…[7][8][9] Cobalt macrocycles can also act as good electrocatalysts for selective CO 2 reduction to CO in organic solvents. [10][11][12][13] In water, however, cobalt macrocycles have lacked selectivity for CO, [13][14][15] because cobalt complexes act as good catalysts for H 2 evolution. 16- 21 We report herein selective electrocatalytic reduction of CO 2 to CO using a glassy carbon electrode modified with a cobalt(II) chlorin complex (Co II (Ch): a chemical structure shown in Scheme 1) adsorbed on carbon nanotubes in water.…”

“…Results suggest that both modified electrodes can efficiently detect and quantify atrazine, being the electrode modified with ZnTRP the most sensitive. It is worth note that after a certain concentration the electrochemical signal becomes no longer linear with the concentration, suggesting a saturation of the modified surface, this fact can be explained by a saturation of the active sites in the electrode .…”

“…This phenomenon is common in carbonaceous surfaces modified with porphyrins in ionic liquid media , and can be interpreted as a change in morphology due to interactions between the ionic liquid and the extended π ring of the macrocycle, giving rise to strong interactions that impede proper precipitation of MTRP on the electrodic surface. It is known that the bipyridine ligand can be considered as a π‐extended system and sufficiently planar to facilitate interactions by stacking between adjacent molecules .…”

“…The measurement was performed using the Zn-MOF/CP electrodes as the reference. 28 The experimental apparatus were the same as for CV measurements. The impedance spectra was recorded in IL BmimBF 4 at an open circuit potential (OCP) with an amplitude of 5 mV of 10 –2 to 10 5 Hz.…”
