Electrocatalytic and structural properties and computational calculation of PAN-EC-PC-TPAI-I2gel polymer electrolytes for dye sensitized solar cell application

Abstract: In this study, gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) were prepared using polyacrylonitrile (PAN) polymer, ethylene carbonate (EC), propylene carbonate (PC) plasticizers and different compositions of tetrapropylammonium iodide (TPAI) salt.

“…In the Nyquist plots shown in Figure 1, it is possible to observe two well‐defined regions: a linear part associated with the effects of the blocking electrodes, caused by the impossibility of penetration of the ions to the electrode, [ 11 ] and the semicircular part associated with resistive and capacitive effects occurred in the volume of the sample. [ 12 ] These diagrams show the change in the resistance of a PVDF‐H 3 PO 2 sample with x = 30% wt concentration, when the % RH around of sample is changed.…”

“…It should be noted that the addition of salt causes the intensity of the diffracted peaks of the chitosan polymer host to be uplifted. According to Faisal I Chaudry et al this is due to the interaction of ions in the salt with functional groups existing in the polymer host, such as NH 2 with the lone pair of electrons, as well as other oxygen and hydroxyl groups, and this has been validated by FTIR analysis [35]. However the intensity is found to be low for the polymer electrolyte with 60 wt % of MgNO 3 .6H 2 O salt when compared to other salt added polymer electrolytes and the crystalline nature is found to be increased again at higher concentrations of salt.…”

“…Hence, the solid-state DSSCs show a decrease in energy conversion efficiency compared to the liquid electrolyte-based devices. 7,8 To address these drawbacks, organic hole-conducting transport materials, an in situ photopolymerization method 9 and ptype semiconductors were introduced to overcome the critical sealing procedures in the fabrication of DSSCs. These materials exhibit more stability in DSSCs.…”
