Electrical Percolation Threshold and Size Effects in Polyvinylpyrrolidone-Oxidized Single-Wall Carbon Nanohorn Nanocomposite: The Impact for Relative Humidity Resistive Sensors Design

Abstract: This paper reports, for the first time, on the electrical percolation threshold in oxidized carbon nanohorns (CNHox)–polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) films. We demonstrate—starting from the design and synthesis of the layers—how these films can be used as sensing layers for resistive relative humidity sensors. The morphology and the composition of the sensing layers are investigated through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and RAMAN spectroscopy. For establishing the electrical perc… Show more

“…At present, NFC sensors are integrated in most smart phones and smart bracelets, so they have great development prospects and wide development space in the wearable field. Integrating NFC technology with sensing units that have the ability to detect physical and chemical signals in a single wearable sensor allows for different kinds of health detection [ 43 , 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 , 50 , 51 , 52 ].…”

“…Considering PVP is the major contributor in water sorption of nanohybrids, any microstructural change of the polymer may be of paramount importance in the diffusion of water molecules and may finally affect the sensing performance [56,57]. As a rule, the free volume of polymer/inorganic nanohybrids is larger than that of pure polymer [58][59][60]. Therefore, in comparison with the CNHox/PVP nanocomposite, the CNHox/TiO 2 /PVP nanohybrid should possess a larger degree of swelling.…”
