“…Ternary lanthanide (Ln) transition-metal (M) aluminide compounds adopting the ThMn 12 structure type have been the subject of intense research efforts for decades as part of a search for materials exhibiting interesting magnetic ground states or transport properties [1,2,[4][5][6]10,11]. These compounds crystallize in the space group I4/mmm with the general formula Ln(M,X) 12 (M¼V-Fe, Ni, Zn; X¼main group element).…”

“…Phase equilibria concerning Al 4 Gd are not known. Recently, a new hexagonal compound Al 17 Gd 2 was found by Pop et al [18] Palasyuk et al [19] measured the electrical resistivity in the temperature range of 1.5 K to 300 K (À271.5°C to 27°C) for Th 2 Zn 17 structure type Gd 2 Fe x Al 17Àx ternary intermetallic compound and refined the cell constants of Gd 2 Fe 10 Al 7 (a = 0.86981 nm and c = 1.26563 nm) and Gd 2 Fe 11 Al 6 (a = 0.86642 nm and c = 1.26164 nm). The crystallization behavior of Al 3 Gd 4 metallic glass has been studied by X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry.…”

“…Thus, the research of ternary compounds or multivariant compounds consisting of the normal metals and the conventional binary compounds received increasing attention, stimulated by the expectation of new compounds with anomalous properties. A notable series of compounds is the ternary intermetallic R-T-M compounds (M ¼ p-electron element), especially the ternary equiatomic intermetallic compounds RMAl (M ¼ Fe, Co and Ni) [6][7][8].…”
