Electric vehicle smart charging and vehicle-to-grid operation

Abstract: Electric vehicle (EV) charging must be optimised for grid load while guaranteeing that drivers' schedules and range requirements are met. A system encompassing EV owner input via a mobile application, an aggregation middleware, a charge scheduling and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) operation algorithm and a radio-frequency identification reader is proposed. The algorithm's parameters and effectiveness are presented and discussed using simulation results. Simulation results show the algorithm to effectively optimise cha… Show more

“…One is the maximum energy with priority, which sets the charging power as the maximum from all energy requests, and the other is called spread energy with priority, which calculates the rate by dividing the total required energy with the entire available time period. A simple dispatching strategy was proposed by Mal et al [60] for a car park. A logic controller is designed to control the on/off status of a batch of chargers in intervals, depending on the desired charging time and state of charge (SOC) collected from users.…”

“…A software based EV charging system with multiplexing capabilities must have a unique safety system that integrates safety on all levels of control. [10], several charging algorithms and results are presented. However, none of them address the unique safety requirements of a software based charging system with variable current and multiplexing control that is introduced in this paper.…”

“…Work has been done in modeling and algorithms for smart EV networks [5]- [7]. Moving beyond modeling, WINSmartEV TM [8][9] is a demonstration EV charging network currently in operation. It is a software and network based EV charging system designed and built around the ideas of intelligent charge scheduling, multiplexing (connecting multiple vehicles to each circuit) and flexibility.…”
