Electric Field Induced Alignment of Carbon Nanotubes: Methodology and Outcomes

Abstract: In the current chapter, achievement of aligned carbon nanotube (CNT) network within the matrix via various kinds of electric fields (AC and DC) was evaluated. In this case, alignment mechanism of CNTs within the matrix and two useful techniques for justification of CNT alignment throughout the matrix were examined and presented, respectively. Afterward, effective factors in matter of CNT alignment and applicable procedures for fabrication of nanocomposites containing aligned CNTs were studied and presented, re… Show more

“…For instance, PEI grafted GO exhibited enhanced chemotherapy efficacy towards HeLa cells by sequential delivery of anticancer drugs and siRNA [81, 82] Aldehydes and ketones are similar in reactivity. The development of methods for the chemo selective reduction of aldehydes in the presence of ketones has therefore received considerable attention or by using additives such as thermoplastic, (PET, ABS, SAN), [83-85] nano tube [86, 87] resins [88, 89], graphen oxide  in Polymer composie  For X-ray radiation shielding [90] and and properties of nanocomposites, linear low density polyethylene, ethylene-co-vinyl acetate and nano clay particles by electron beam [91]. …”

“…In previous studies, depending on the alignment direction of the CNTs, the physical properties of CNT composites, such as electrical conductivity, mechanical properties and strain-resistance sensitivity, could be changed [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 ]. Various attempts to form aligned CNTs have been successfully reported [ 9 , 10 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 ]. Kaushik et al [ 10 ] produced an aligned CNT polycarbonate composite used as a strain sensor via a micro-injection method and observed its characteristics along the CNT-alignment direction.…”

“…The resulting MWCNT composite with different degrees of alignment was compared with randomly oriented and transverse direction MWCNT composites. In order to characterize the MWCNT alignment in nanotube composites, polarized Raman spectroscopy was used for aligned MWCNTs, taking advantage of the relative intensity of the observed D and G band’s sensitivity to the nanotube’s orientation [ 5 , 20 , 21 , 26 ]. To investigate the effect of MWCNT filler alignment, mechanical tests and cyclic stretching tests were conducted for the three composite cases (aligned, random and transverse).…”

“…The nano-sized silica particles are unusual because they are applied in emerging areas like medicine and drug delivery etc. Silica nanoparticles have been used in the industry to reinforce the elastomers as a rheological solute (2)(3)(4)(5). Silica nanocomposites have been attracting some scientific interest as well due to the advantage of the low cost of production and in the highperformance features.…”
