Elastic polyaniline with EPDM and dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid as plasticizers

Abstract: Elastomeric polyaniline was prepared by being mixed with ethylene-propylene-diene (EPDM) rubber in low concentrations (10, 20, or 30 wt %). The mixture was made in an internal mixer coupled to a torque rheometer. The polyaniline was doped with dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA) via reactive processing during the mixing. When the EPDM rubber was added to the polyaniline and DBSA, the doping reaction was not interrupted, as demonstrated by an increase in the torque values. We chose the relative DBSA and EPDM con… Show more

“…The doping process of PAni-EB with CSA (PAni-CSA) was carried out using two routes: (i) solution doping (stirring PAni-EB into 1.0 mol L À1 solution of CSA for 24 hr) to obtain PAni-CSA-s; and (ii) reactive processing doping (using an internal mixer chamber of a Haake rheometer 600 according to previous work) [12,18] to obtain PAni-CSA-rp. The reactive processing with CSA was performed at different temperatures (80, 90, and 1008C) at 50 rpm for 10 min.…”

“…The use of blends in the rubber industry is important because it allows tailoring of the characteristics of a material by using in their composition two or more polymers with different proper-ties. [6][7][8][9] Poly(ethylene-co-propylene-co-ethylidenenorbornene), EPDM rubber, was chosen in this work because of its highly saturated structure affording a material with good resistance against weathering. 10 PAni is one of the most studied conducting polymers due to its high electrical conductivity associated to good stability, facility of preparation, and low cost of the monomer.…”

“…Encontra-se na literatura vários trabalhos onde se descreve a obtenção de compósitos de PANI com elastomeros, utilizando diferentes métodos de preparo como mistura termomecâ-nica [8,9] , "casting" [10][11][12][13] , eletroquímico e emulsão [14] . Neste trabalho, compósitos de borracha natural com polianilina foram obtidos através da polimerização da anilina por emulsão na presença de borracha natural, toluol e do ácido dodecilbenzeno sulfônico -DBSA.…”
