El calcio, esencial para la salud

Abstract: Calcium (Ca) is the most abundant mineral element in our body. It accounts for about 2% of body weight. The functions of calcium are: a) functions skeletal and b) regulatory functions. Bone consists of a protein matrix that mineralizes mainly with calcium (the most abundant), phosphate and magnesium, for it is essential an adequate dietary intake of Ca, phosphorus and vitamin D. The ionic Ca (Ca 2+ ) is essential to maintain and / or perform different specialized functions of, virtually, all body cells cellula… Show more

“…Calcium, another essential mineral for life, is necessary for multiple biological functions, including building healthy bones, muscles, and nerves, and maintaining the fundamental cell progressions [73]. However, exposure to high calcium concentration may induce genome instability.…”

“…We have to have access to food composition tables (FCT) or food composition databases (FCDB), that provide data on the content of the compound or compounds that are the objects of the study. 12,13 Food intake can be studied using a wide variety of methods and the selection is influenced by the type of sample (individuals or population), the design and the objective of the study, as well as the available resources, among others. In any case, the method must be validated to confirm that the researchers measured what they intended to measure.…”
