EKSPRESI Interleukin-1 (IL-1) PADA PERIAPIKAL AKIBAT INDUKSI BAKTERI Enterococcus faecalis

Abstract: Background. Root canal treatment is a main role in decreasing infection from root canal and pulp. The main cause of periapical damage mostly are bacteries. E.faecalis is a bactery that is found as an etiology of endodontic treatment failure. Cell wall of this bacteria is containing Lipoteichoic acid (LTA). LTA can penetrate into the periradicular tissue, act as endotoxin in host and cause periradicular inflammation and destruction. It occurs due to the capability of IL-1. IL-1 is the proinflammation cytokine t… Show more

“…Root canal treatment is indicated in teeth with infections that have reached the pulp chamber, both vital and non-vital, and are irreversible. Basically, root canal treatment aims to clean and eliminate bacteria and their metabolic products, remove necrotic tissue, assist the healing process of periapical tissues and prevent recurrent infections of the teeth and periapical tissues (1). Root canal treatment consists of three main stages known as the endodontic triad, namely biomechanical preparation which includes cleaning and shaping, disinfection which includes irrigation and sterilization, and ended with adequate root canal filling (obturation).…”

“…3 Based on Suryandari, et al it is known that 20 out of 30 cases of endodontic infection that had root canal treatment were caused by E.faecalis. 4 These bacteria can compete with other microorganisms to enter the dentinal tubules and can survive in low nutriational conditions. 3 Root canal treatment aims to clean the root canal thoroughly from infected pulp tissue so that the root canal space can be formed and prepared to be filled with a root canal filling material to prevent or minimize reinfection.…”
