The use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in the production of rootstocks is a strategy to promote faster plant growth. However, this response depends on the symbiont species. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of different species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) on the development and physiology of citrange 'Fepagro C37 Reck' rootstock. Four species of AMF were used in the experiment: Scutellospora heterogama, Gigaspora margarita, Glomus etunicatum, and Acaulospora sp., and a control treatment. The experiment was arranged in a randomized blocks design, with 5 treatments, 3 replicates, and 10 plants per plot. Every 15 days, height (cm) and stem diameter (mm) of plants were measured in the nursery. At 330 days, the number of leaves, leaf area (cm²), fresh and dry mass of roots and shoot (g/plant), root and shoot reserve content, and AMF colonization were evaluated. The AMF inoculation promoted an accelerated vegetative growth, resulting in greater height and diameter. The fungi also promoted greater absorption of most of the nutrients and increase in all other parameters evaluated. However, no effect was found on the reserve content of the rootstock. Roots were colonized with moderate presence of arbuscules and low presence of vesicles. AMF, regardless of species, influence the development and physiology of the citrange 'Fepagro C37 Reck' rootstock.

Conduziu-se o experimento em casa de vegetação com o objetivo de avaliar os efeitos da inoculação de fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMAs) e de bactérias diazotróficas endofíticas no crescimento de mudas de maracujazeiro-doce sob diferentes doses de fósforo. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, em arranjo fatorial 3x2x4, sendo três tratamentos com fungos: Gigaspora margarita, Glomus clarum e controle (sem fungo); dois tratamentos com bactérias: Burkholderia sp. + Burkholderia silvatlantica e controle (sem bactéria); e quatro doses de fósforo: 0; 15; 30 e 60 mg dm-3, com quatro repetições. A unidade experimental foi composta por um vaso de 3,5 dm³ com três plantas. As mudas foram produzidas a partir de sementes e transplantadas para vasos, contendo mistura de solo e areia (1:2 v:v) esterilizada. Aos noventa dias após o transplante das mudas, foram avaliados: altura, diâmetro do caule, área foliar, massa seca da parte aérea, porcentagem de raízes colonizadas por fungos e enumeração de bactérias nas raízes. Independentemente da presença de bactérias diazotróficas, a inoculação com FMAs proporcionou incrementos na altura, massa seca de parte aérea, área foliar e diâmetro do caule das mudas de maracujazeiro-doce, nas doses de 0 e 15 mg dm-3 de P. As bactérias promoveram incrementos na altura e área foliar das mudas quando associadas ao FMA G. margarita, entretanto, sem a presença dos FMAs, estas reduziram a massa seca da parte aérea, independentemente das doses de P no substrato.

Combination of Humic Substances and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Affecting Corn Plant Growth

This study evaluates the interaction effects on corn (Zea mays L.) growth between intact humic substances (HS) extracted in an alkaline medium from three different origins (an Organosol [HS-Org], an Andisol [HS-And], and vermicompost [HS-Vc]) and the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) Dentiscutata heterogama. The HS were characterized by spectroscopic techniques, and different biochemical, morphological, nutritional, and AMF colonization parameters were evaluated in corn plants. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, and low-fertility soils sterilized after solarization were used as the substrate. Hybrid corn BR-3025 was planted, and the HS concentrations used were 5, 10, and 20 mg carbon L −1 for HS-And, HS-Vc, and HS-Org, respectively, applied 15, 25, and 45 d after emergence close to the roots. The results show that HS application and D. heterogama inoculation significantly stimulated the biomass in relation to the treatments without AMF. Carbohydrate and protein content were stimulated by HS-AMF interaction. A higher leaf content of nutrients was observed in the AMF-and HS-inoculated plants. The HS-Vc application and AMF inoculation resulted in intense stimulation, which was confirmed with a high mycorrhizal efficiency. The spore density and glomalin content were also stimulated by the three different HS applications independently of their source. The HS-Vc has intermediate structural chemical characteristics in terms of polarity and aromaticity compared with HS-Org and HS-And. The HS-Vc more strongly stimulated the plant physiological parameters when combined with the AMF inoculation. These results may indicate that the HS formed in soil and characterized by structures that are more balanced may function more effectively.
