Efficient Shuffle Network Architecture and Application for WiMAX LDPC Decoders

Abstract: In this brief, a new algorithm that can efficiently generate all the control signals for the shuffle network used in flexible low-density parity-check (LDPC) decoders is proposed. Employing the proposed algorithm, the hardware complexity of the controller of shuffle networks using the Benes network structure can be significantly reduced. In addition, a low-complexity reconfigurable shuffle network architecture for flexible LDPC decoders is developed. Both the Benes network and the controller can be tailored to… Show more

“…The existing schemes to implement switch networks include the MS-CS network [20] and Benes network [13,21,22]. The former structure can handle the case when S is not a power of 2, while the latter is proved more efficient in area and gate count.…”

“…The former structure can handle the case when S is not a power of 2, while the latter is proved more efficient in area and gate count. In [13], the most efficient on-the-fly generation method of control signals is proposed. Therefore, we adopt the Benes network proposed in [13] for our decoder.…”

“…Typically, one-input one-output processing units are used to process the messages serially. The barrel shifter [29] is quite expensive and researchers [29], [30] have explored efficient implementations of the barrel shifter using Benes network structure. By mapping messages in this way, it is very efficient to implement highly flexible decoder for multiple standards [31], [32].…”
