A new optical chemical sensor is established for sensitive and selective spectrophotometric detection of copper based on the immobilization of 3‐(2‐methyl‐2,3‐dihydro‐1,3‐benzothiezol‐2‐yl)‐2H‐chromen‐2‐one on a triacetylcellulose membrane. Copper ions react with the immobilized ligand and cause an increase in the absorption of the membrane at 550 nm in universal buffer solution at pH = 6. The effects of pH, indicator concentration and reaction time on the immobilization of the ligand were studied. This optode exhibits a linear range of 7.0 × 10−7 to 1 × 10−4 mol l−1 of copper ion concentration with a limit of detection of 3.0 × 10−7 mol l−1. The response time of the newly designed optode is within 3 min. The effect of different possible interfering species was investigated and it was found that the sensor has very good selectivity. The proposed sensor benefits from advantages such as low cost, high stability, low detection limit, fast response time, reproducibility, relatively long lifetime, and good selectivity for Cu2+ ion determination among a large number of alkali, alkaline earth, transition and heavy metal ions. The sensor can readily be regenerated with thiourea solution and its response is reversible and reproducible (relative standard deviation < 1.4%). The proposed optode was applied successfully for the determination of Cu(II) in various samples.

BackgroundCoumarins are an important class of widely distributed heterocyclic natural products exhibiting a broad pharmacological profile. In this work, a new series of coumarins bearing substituted 3,4-dihydro-2H-benzothiazines were described as potential analgesic agents. The clinical use of NSAIDs as traditional analgesics is associated with side effects such as gastrointestinal lesions and nephrotoxicity. Therefore, the discovery of new safer drugs represents a challenging goal for such a research area.ResultsThe target compounds 3-(3-methyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-benzo[b][1,4]thiazin-3-yl)-2H-chromen-2-ones 2a-u were synthesized and characterized by spectral data. The antinociceptive properties of target compounds were determined by formalin-induced test and acetic acid-induced writhing test in mice. Among the tested compounds, compound 2u bearing 2-(4-(methylsulfonyl)benzoyl)- moiety on benzothiazine ring and 4-(methylsulfonyl)phenacyloxy- group on the 7 position of coumarin nucleus showed better profile of antinocecieption in both models. It was more effective than mefenamic acid during the late phase of formalin-induced test as well as in the acetic acid-induced writhing test.ConclusionConsidering the significant antinoceciptive action of phenacyloxycoumarin derivatives, compound 2u prototype might be further used as model to obtain new more potent analgesic drugs.

An efficient method for the synthesis of a novel series of cyclopenta[b]pyrano pyrimidinone derivatives with silica-bonded N-propyl diethylenetriamine sulfamic acid (SBPDSA) as catalyst has been achieved by the condensation of 2-amino-4-phenyl-5-oxo-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrocyclopenta[b]pyran-3-carbonitrile derivatives and coumarin-3-carboxylic acid under solvent free conditions. Antimicrobial studies showed all the target compounds processing good antibacterial and antifungal activities. ª 2014 The Authors.
