Mobility awareness and energy efficiency are two indispensable optimization problems in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) where nodes move unpredictably in any direction with restricted battery life, resulting in frequent change in topology. These constraints are widely studied to increase the lifetime of such networks. This paper focuses on the problems of mobility as well as energy efficiency to develop a clustering algorithm inspired by multiagent stochastic parallel search technique of particle swarm optimization. The election of cluster heads takes care of mobility and remaining energy as well as the degree of connectivity for selecting nodes to serve as cluster heads for longer duration of time. The cluster formation is presented by taking multiobjective fitness function using particle swarm optimization. The proposed work is experimented extensively in the NS-2 network simulator and compared with the other existing algorithms. The results show the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm in terms of network lifetime, average number of clusters formed, average number of reclustering required, energy consumption, and packet delivery ratio.

Trust and reputation management represents a significant trend in tackling the security problems in computer networks. The basic idea is to let machines rate each other and then use the aggregated ratings to derive trust scores, which can assist machines in deciding whether to collaborate or not in the future tasks. Recently there are rapidly growing research literatures on trust management but these researches mainly focus on studying how to model and evaluate the trust so as to effectively detect and avoid malicious attacks. There is less work on how to reveal the effect of the underlying network structure on the overlay trust behaviours. In this paper, we have discovered the presence of structural transitivity in studying trust and reputation behaviours of the smart metering network. The network trust is not merely a function of trust models, but also a network-wide activity in which the network structure matters. The simulation studies have confirmed that the transitive relation between devices enhances the accuracy of trust and reputation systems to detect then avoid malicious nodes and requires less energy consumption. Moreover, this study reveals the relationships between topological transitivity, average shortest path and energy consumed by the node to locate the trusted node in the network.

Mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a gathering of self‐ruling mobile nodes in which ad hoc network framed without settled foundation. Dynamic topology property of MANET may debase the execution of the network, mobility attentiveness, and energy effectiveness because of an ideal cluster head (CH). The low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy protocol is used in the MANETs for enhancement of network life time by proficiently utilizing of the accessible constrained energy. Artificial fish swarm optimization is used to select the CH in MANET communication process. The election of CH takes care of mobility and remaining energy as well as the degree of connectivity for selecting nodes to serve as cluster for longer duration of time. From the implementation results, it is observed that the proposed method provides the maximum network life time as 80 to 140 hours and minimum energy consumption as 9 to 130 J, compared with existing protocol and optimization technique.
