Efficient and Eco-Friendly Management of Biodegradable Municipal Solid Waste (Msw) Using Naturally Aerated Windrow Composting Technique in District Lahore Pakistan

Abstract: In urban areas, management of solid waste is a big and serious issue because of high amount of waste generated from different sources (industries, domestic etc.). In Lahore solid waste generated daily is about 5000 ton comprising of around 60% biodegradable and 40% non-biodegradable waste. About 70% of waste is collected which is then disposed of in unmonitored dumping sites. It causes severe environmental problems. The present study is for minimizing the solid waste being collected. Composting technique was a… Show more

“…Industries and domestic wastes are the major sources that could cause severe environmental problems. The solid-waste quantity of Lahore (located in the capital of the Pakistani province of Punjab) per day is 5000 tones which consist of 60% biodegradable and 40% non-biodegradable waste ( Ahmad et al., 2017 ). In this case the reduction of composing period is achieved by introducing the specific microbial activity.…”

“…In this study, the above definition of vegetation coverage was adopted. Vegetation coverage is an important index depicting the land surface vegetation and is the basic index of the changes of ecological environment and conditions of land surface vegetation (Qin et al 2006, Ahmad et al 2017. Vegetation coverage is the important indicator of the regional ecological system and environment change.…”
