Efficient access of mobile flows to heterogeneous networks under flash crowds

Abstract: Abstract-Future wireless networks need to offer orders of magnitude more capacity to address the predicted growth in mobile traffic demand. Operators to enhance the capacity of cellular networks are increasingly using WiFi to offload traffic from their core networks. This paper deals with the efficient and flexible management of a heterogeneous networking environment offering wireless access to multimode terminals. This wireless access is evaluated under disruptive usage scenarios, such as flash crowds, which … Show more

“…minimum energy consumption, low delay and interference, high rate and robustness). Additional advantages include [19]: i) combining wireless and backhaul resources in the network selection; and ii) orchestrating flow admission and rate policing to guarantee end-to-end QoS/QoE. Other edge access networks visualized in Fig.…”

“…This work focused on the connectivity management in handover technologies, which is different with our work. A scalable solution was proposed to automatically balance the traffic from the heterogeneous network operation environments [48] in order to optimize the target network. All these works focused on either traffic optimization, or middlewares, or policy language and enforcement.…”
