Efficiency-optimal power partitioning for improved partial load efficiency of electric drives

Abstract: In this paper, the global power conversion efficiency is improved for a fault-tolerant drive architecture. The fault-tolerant architecture is obtained by combination of a 3-phase open-end winding machine and a 3H-bridge inverter. This combination offers more degrees of freedom for Accepted article for publication in a future issue of ELSEVIER Electric Power Systems Research-Citation information

“…As automotive traction is characterized by very high power dynamics, it is crucial that η boost , the chopper efficiency, remains at a high value over a wide power range [50]. Toyota strategy is power splitting, which fits well with the large FC-rated current of several hundred Ampere [51,52]. Considering the Mirai, the power converter is thus made up of the parallel arrangement of four elementary switching cells whose commands are interleaved to minimize the current ripples in the FC as well as in the C Bus capacitor of the high voltage bus.…”

“…In this regard, along with the economic dimension of such problem as decrease of cash expenditures, for Water Supply Company there is a perceived problem with the low energy efficiency of operation of pump units associated with the use of water flow control via valve throttling. It is known that replacing valve control with variable frequency drive control allows to obtain energy savings up to 60% in similar systems [2]. Such authors as Bose, K. Bimal, B.S.…”
