Efficiency of the electricity sector in Mexico 2008-2015

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to determine the level of efficiency in the Mexico electricity industry during the 2008-2015 period. Design/methodology/approach A data envelopment analysis (DEA) network model is proposed, where technical efficiency is calculated. A factorial analysis using the principal components method was carried out first. Later, latent dimensions were calculated through the variance criterion and sedimentation graph, where four components were presented. After performing factor rot… Show more

“…In addition to the most representative areas of practical applications of the network DEA discussed above, the literature also presents a large number of papers on modeling the activities of enterprises and organizations in various sectors of the economy. Thus, the papers in [99][100][101][102][103] model energy systems. Zhang et al [99] consider the case of electricity generation (first stage) and electricity transmission (second stage) in China.…”

“…A similar approach is used in [100][101][102] for modeling an electrical energy system in Iran as a three-stage DMU with generation, transmission, and distribution stages. The same idea is used in [103] for modeling the energy system of Mexico.…”

“…Navarro-Chávez [44] and others concluded that DEA can be an effective assessment tool for the analysis of energy efficiency issues in the future, through a comprehensive analysis. Not only can DEA evaluate the overall energy efficiency of a country and a region, but it can also evaluate the energy efficiency of individual units and provide guidance for improving energy efficiency [45].…”
