Efficiency of rehabilitation after acute myocardial infarction

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the recurrence rate and medical expenses of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) following inpatient cardiac rehabilitation. A total of 834 patients with AMI were divided into Group 1 (with inpatient cardiac rehabilitation) and Group 2 (without inpatient cardiac rehabilitation). The results showed that Group 1 had a lower AMI recurrence rate (a 0.640-fold lower hazards ratio) than Group 2 [95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.197-1.863; p = 0.004]. Compared with the medical c… Show more

“…This study included 60 patients with AMI, of which 50 participated in a physical exercise program within one month after the cardiac event. 9 The studies that had crossed the "no effect" line were not statistically significant for our meta-analysis (Figure 2).…”

“…In a study by Chen et al (2015), beneficial changes have been noticed after kinesiotherapy in 610 out of 834 patients. 9 Even though the heterogeneity of the studies was low compared with the outcomes of other studies, only the studies of Chen et al 9 and Izeli et al 13 did not cross the "no effect" line, therefore being statistically significant for our meta-analysis. However, the study of Izeli et al had to be dismissed due to its inappropriate design and limitations (Figure 3).…”

“…Stationary cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is the best known and most often recommended secondary prevention approach after AMI [5][6][7][8][9]. However, in light of its high costs, delayed return home, and only a short period of intervention, the search for alternatives is well justified [10][11][12][13].…”
