Based on the study of the relative assessment reports and statistical data of University and National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) fleet of the United States, coupled with the statistical data of 1,500-ton oceanographic research vessels of China, this paper constructs a linear relationship model between the average daily operating cost of oceanographic research vessels and the number of days of use of such vessels, and proposes concrete methods of applying the research results of the average daily operating cost of oceanographic research vessels to technical and economic validation and fleet management.

The main tasks for which the genetic algorithm is currently applied in shipbuilding are shown. The possibility of applying the genetic algorithm for determining the optimal characteristics of ships at the initial stages of design is considered. The formulation of the problem of parametric optimization for the initial stages of design is given. The features of such a problem and possible approaches to its solution are considered. Using the example of the problem of parametric optimization of small waterplane area twin hull ships, it is shown that the traditional methods of non-linear programming are not very effective. It is shown that one of the possible options for increasing the efficiency of searching for the optimal solution is the application of genetic algorithms. The mathematical bases of GA are considered and the scheme for finding the optimal solution using this method is described. The examples of test functions show the effectiveness of the genetic algorithm in comparison with traditional optimization methods. The results of solving the problem of parametric optimization of high-speed SWATH passenger ships are presented. Sažetak Prikazane su glavne zadaće genetičkih algoritama i njihove primjene u brodogradnji. Razmatra se mogućnost primjene genetičkog algoritma za određivanje optimalnih karakteristika brodova u prvim etapama nacrta broda. Daje se formulacija problema parametrijske optimizacije za početne etape nacrta broda. Promatraju se značajke takvoga problema i mogući pristupi rješenju. Koristeći primjerak problema parametrijske optimizacije maloga broda SWATH, prikazuje se da su tradicionalne metode nelinearnoga programiranja nedjelotvorne. Navodi se da je jedna od mogućih opcija za povećanje djelotvornosti traženja optimalnih rješenja primjena genetičkih algoritama. Promatra se matematička osnova GA i opisuje se shema za pronalaženje optimalnoga rješenja korištenjem ove metode. Primjerci funkcija testa pokazuju djelotvornost genetičkog algoritma u usporedbi s tradicionalnim metodama optimizacije. Predočavaju se rezultati rješavanja problema parametrijske optimizacije SWATH putničkoga broda velikih brzina. Determination of efficiency and optimization harbour tug fleet is based on simulation of fleet work and usage for this the methods of ship dynamics and probability theory. Visiting the port transport vessels of possible types is considered as random stream of given intensity. This stream is distributed over the berths. Productivities of berths are given random variables. Random variables are also characteristics of weather conditions in the harbour basin. Tug fleet is represented by the collection of existing port tugs of different types. Work of tugs is determined by operations of approaching to ships, escorting theirs in the near-port waters, posting on the approach channels, transportation within the port waters, berthing, unberthing and going out the ship from the port with the repetition of functioning operations in reverse order. Selection of tugs to service the next arriving or departing ship is dependent from the intensity of the current weather conditions in the port and busyness of tugs in operations with other ships. Work fleet is considered on the conditional time interval of one year. In this time the efficiency of the tug fleet is defined by economic indexes of fulfilment of all towing operations and operations on maintenance tugs. Optimization of the fleet composition is carried out according to the criteria required minimum total bollard pull, low cost and high profit. Based on performed research a program for calculating the efficiency and optimization of the port towing fleet is composed. The program can be adapted to any port with whatever types of tugs.
