Efficacy of the new adjustable I‐stop‐mini sling system in women with stress urinary incontinence and intrinsic sphincter deficiency: A retrospective cohort study

Abstract: Female stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common problem with a prevalence rate reaching 40% in Western countries. 1 SUI affects approximately half of all women during their lifetime. 2-4 Furthermore, women with SUI associated with intrinsic sphincter deficiency (ISD) often have more severe symptoms than those without ISD. 5 This may be the result of low maximal urethral closure pressure (MUCP) and reduced urethral mobility attributable to aging or a neurological cause. 6 The surgical success rates are low… Show more

“…1 As with many diseases [2][3][4] , there are multiple choices to be offered in the management of women with POP, 5,6 ranging from conservative options, such as lifestyle changes, physiotherapy (pelvic floor muscle training, pessary use) to more invasive surgical treatment either from natural orifice, minimally invasive approach and conventional exploratory laparotomy. [7][8][9] The main goal of the aforementioned therapies is an improvement of the symptoms, a reconstruction of the anatomic defects and a better restoration of the function. 1 However, therapy is relatively complicated and there is still absence of agreement about the gold-standard therapy, partly because of great variation of the subjective and/or objective curative rates as well as presence of many of therapy-related adverse events and possible longterm complications.…”
