“…Li et al [23] studied the efficacy and safety of an IPL device (Lumenis One, Lumenis, Inc., Santa Clara, CA; fluence: 13-17 J/cm 2 ; 560-/590-nm filters, double pulse or 590-/615-/640-nm filters and triple pulse, 3-4 milliseconds pulse duration; 25-40 milliseconds pulse delay) in the treatment of melasma in Chinese patients (n ¼ 89). Patients received IPL treatments (n ¼ 4) at 3-week intervals.…”

“…Over the last decade, the demand for IPL therapy in treating melasma has risen steadily, although IPL was traditionally considered as a second-line treatment. Li reported that 69 of 89 Chinese patients (77.5%) being treated for melasma improved by more than 50% following a total of four IPL treatments at 3-week intervals [12]. Recently, low-fluence IPL and fractionated IPL were used in treating melasma.…”

“…According to a professional assessment, fi ve patients exhibited good improvements, whereas one patient showed excellent improvement, whereby therapeutic effi cacy was correlated to the number of treatment sessions and anatomical sites. In another study, Li et al [26] reported on the effi cacy and safety of the same IPL device (fl uence, 13 -17 J/cm 2 ; 560-/590-nm fi lters and double pulse or 590-/615-/640-nm fi lters and triple pulse; pulse duration, 3 -4 ms; delay time, 25 -40 ms) in the treatment of melasma in 89 Chinese patients. Patients received a total of four IPL treatments at 3-week intervals.…”
