Abstract:This study demonstrated that the addition of acarbose to patients with type 2 diabetes who are inadequately controlled with insulin and diet is safe and generally well tolerated and that it significantly lowers HbA1c and postprandial glucose levels.
“…Further in vivo experiments should be carried out in order to investigate the effect of the combination of these compounds and acarbose on lowering blood glucose in type 2 diabetes. In addition, the most common adverse effect of acarbose is a gastrointestinal disturbance induced by gas production upon fermentation of unabsorbed carbohydrates in the bowel 28 . Acarbose has rarely been associated with systemic adverse effects, but in some cases acute severe hepatotoxicity has been reported 29 .…”

“…In order to investigate this effect, In vivo experiments should be further studied for the combination between cyanidin-3-galactoside and acarbose on lowering blood glucose in type 2 diabetes. In addition, the most common adverse effect of acarbose is a gastrointestinal disturbance, which is induced by producing gas with fermentation of the unabsorbed carbohydrates bowel [16][17][18]. Acarbose has rarely been associated with systemic adverse effect, but in some case acute severe hepatotoxicity has been reported [19][20][21].…”
“…Other drugs such as ␣-glucosidase inhibitors also work by lowering PPG levels (30). Many of the existing sensitizers also have a positive effect on postprandial hyperglycemia, in addition to lowering fasting glucose (31).…”
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
