Efficacy and safety assessment of traditional Chinese medicine for metabolic syndrome

Abstract: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a multifarious metabolic disorder that could severely damage multiple organs. The emergence of MetS has markedly increased medical burden for patients. The treatment of MetS involves multitarget regulation, which is the advantage of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Many high-quality studies related to TCM for MetS have been conducted in recent years; however, no overall efficacy analysis has been reported. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of TCM against MetS, we reviewed rand… Show more

“…Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is widely used to prevent and treat hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, and other metabolic diseases in China ( Yin et al., 2008 ; Wu et al., 2020 ). Fufang-Zhenzhu-Tiaozhi capsule (FTZ), a TCM patent prescription consisting of Rhizoma Coptidis, Radix Salivae Miltiorrhizae, Glossy Privet Fruit, Eucommia ulmoides Oliver, and four other herbs, has been widely used to treat glucolipid metabolic disorders in clinical practice for more than 20 years ( Luo et al., 2018 ; Luo et al., 2019 ).…”

“…With a growing emergence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) having been witnessed, traditional Chinese medicines and their active components have shown advantages on regulating metabolic disorders (Bai et al, 2019;Ji et al, 2019;Wu et al, 2020). Due to the excellent metabolic protective bioactivities of FSBT in vitro and in vivo, an increasing number of researchers are attracted to explore their effects and mechanisms.…”
