Effets d'un matériel représentatif sur des tâches de classification : étude génétique.

Abstract

Two samples of children aged from 3; 6 to 4; 0 and 4; 1 to 4; 9 had to dichotomize a logical set of materials either on the basis of only perceptive criteria (P) (characteristics of objects : form, colour, dimension) or on the basis of perceptive and representative criteria (PR) (form, colour and the picture on the object). It is o be noted that the materials and age clearly influence results. The results are commented upon generally with reference to a semantic hypothesis which is related to the hierarchy of the characteristics of the objects. This hierarchy concerning the representative aspects comes first in identification but second in a logical behavior. These results confirm the distinction found in children between their perception of the representative quality of an object and their perception of the physical qualities of this object. This second aspect is more easely processed than the representative quality of an object.
