Effects on rat testes of the thiosemicarbazone derivative Schiff base (4-(1-phenylmethylcyclobutane-3-yl)-2-(2-hydroxybenzylidenehydrazino)thiazole) and its cadmium(II) complex

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate structural and biochemical changes in testes of rats treated with the thiosemicarbazone derivative thiazole ring Schiff base, (4-(1-phenyl-methylcyclobutane-3-yl)-2-(2-hydroxybenzylidene-hydrazino) thiazole (L), and its Cd(II) complex (CdL(2)). The animals were divided into three groups. Group I was designated as control. The rats in groups II and III were injected subcutaneously with L or CdL(2) respectively at 150-mg kg(-1) doses at 3-day intervals for 15 days. At the… Show more

“…The high level of MDA was observed in previous studies. 16,17 In addition, Cu(L) 2 treatment increased GSH-Px activity. It was reported that copper pyridoxal thiosemicarbazone (CuTSC) complex induced oxidative stress by generation of O .…”

“…The Cd(II) complex decreased serum vitamin A and E levels and increased the serum MDA level in rats. 17 In this study, all compounds were used at a dose of 25 mg kg À1 . As seen from the tables, LH did not affect serum vitamin A, E, C, MDA levels and erythrocyte GSH-Px activity, but Zn(L) 2 caused a significant increase in serum vitamin E which has not been previously described.…”

“…[2][3][4][5][6][7] Furthermore, Schiff bases are utilized as starting material in the synthesis of industrial and biological compounds such as b-lactams 8 and their metal complexes have an important pharmacological effect because of antineoplastic, antimalarial, antifungal, antibacterial, and anticancer features. [9][10] Previous studies indicate that Schiff bases, containing the >C --N-group, are known to have slight anticancer activities.…”

“…However, only a few reports are available in vitro and in vivo antioxidative, pro-oxidative properties [17][18][19][20][21][22]. In previous studies, we have investigated the effects on the some serum biochemical parameters (vitamins A,E,C and MDA) and morphological changes normal rat testes, liver and kidney of the ligand 4-(1-phenyl-methylcyclobutane-3-yl)-2-(2-hydroxybenzylidenehydrazino)thiazole (LH) and its Cd(II), Zn(II) and Cu(II) complexes [17,22]. As far as we know there are no studies related to effects on the serum amino acid levels of these compounds in literature.…”
