Effects of vitamin C and vitamin D on mood and distress in acutely hospitalized patients

Abstract: Hypovitaminosis C and D are highly prevalent in acute‐care hospitals, but their clinical implications have not been investigated. Because deficiencies of these vitamins can adversely affect mood, we conducted a double‐blind randomized clinical trial to determine the effect of vitamin C (500 mg twice daily) or D (5000 IU daily) supplementation on psychological status, as assessed using two different validated instruments.
