Abstract: A 30-day experiment involving 720 White Leghorn (L33) layer chickens of 39 weeks of age and average live weight of 1.8 ± 0.04 kg was carried out in a completely randomized design to evaluate the effects of vitamins C and E on erythrocyte parameters of layers during natural summer conditions. Birds were allotted to 4 treatments containing 0, 150 mg vitamin C, 150 mg vitamin E, and 150 mg vitamin C plus 150 mg vitamin E/kg feed. Each treatment was replicated four times. The exposure of layers to 31±3 °C and 33±0… Show more

“…α-Tocopherol supplementation is very effective for poultry because this may reduce the negative effects of corticosterone induced stress (Puthpongsiriporn et al, 2001). α-Tocopherol and ascorbic acid supplementations in diet, particularly in a combination, alleviates the counterproductive effects of high ambient temperature and humidity on the birds (Ajakaiye et al, 2010). They are protective agent that deactivates reactive oxygen species (ROS) and significantly prevent oxidative damage (Ramnath et al, 2008;Prisyanto et al, 2014).…”

“…Hematology (Hemoglobin (Hb) concentration, packed cell volume (PCV), white blood cells (WBCs) and red blood cells (RBCs) of the samples were performed as descried by (Nadeem et al, 2021) and differential leucocytic counts (DLC) by using Giemsa-stained blood smear technique (Gupte, 2009). Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) were calculated as stated by (Ajakaiye et al, 2010).…”

“…Dalam kondisi normal, ayam dapat mensintesis asam askorbat dalam tubuh. Namun, ketika ayam sedang stres, kebutuhan asam askorbat akan meningkat, sehingga perlu ditambahkan 250 -1000 ppm vitamin C ke dalam pakan atau air minum (Ajakaiye et al 2010). Ekspresi HSP70 pada jantung menurun pada ayam yang mengalami stres panas ketika diberi asam askorbat (Piestun et al 2013).…”
